Animax (Japanese: アニマックス) is a worldwide (mainly Japanese) channel known for broadcasting Kamiwaza Wanda.

Channel details[]

Animax was founded on May 20, 1998 and was then first launched on the Japanese television on July 1, 1998. It was later launched in Taiwan on January 1, 2004, China on January 12, 2004 and South Korea on April 29, 2006. On the last half of the 2000's decade, Animax was launched in the USA and in the UK.

Animax is always known for broadcasting Japanese anime shows. In Japan, it is also known for broadcasting Japanese dubbed versions of cartoon from other countries.

Animax is headquartered as a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan in New Pier Takeshiba North Tower in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Its co-founders and shareholders include Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan and the noted animation studios Sunrise, Toei Animation, TMS Entertainment and production company Nihon Ad Systems.

On October 15, 2018, Animax shuts down its UK service, leaving subscribers to be directed to the Funimation service. Animax still has its services running in Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan but the fate of its USA service is unknown.

Animax is the first and largest 24-hour network in the world dedicated to anime.

In Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan, Animax broadcasts the Kamiwaza Wanda anime series, starting with the anime's original season. Episodes of the original Kamiwaza Wanda anime season have aired on Animax's Japan service every Sunday from July 3, 2016 to June 25, 2017.

As of today, Animax currently broadcasts reruns of the original Kamiwaza Wanda anime season whist waiting for the Kamiwaza Wanda anime's next season to debut.

Animax's USA service is yet to broadcast the Kamiwaza Wanda anime series and will do so if the Kamiwaza Wanda anime series' English dub is announced first and then debuted on American television.

  • For the very first episode of the Kamiwaza Wanda anime series, the gaps between the first airing on TBS and the first airing on Animax is 10 weeks and a day long.
